DUKE STREET
Darklight was invited to design a feasibility house on a small suburban lot in on one of Perth’s most popular redevelopment suburbs. The brief was to utilise lightweight construction methodologies with affordable outcomes, energy efficiency and cutting edge modern street appeal a priority. The design sought to prove that affordable housing and good design can act together in balance to create a home that responds to our changing client and economic requirements, but provides liveable homes that have body and a personality in the streetscape. The Duke Street House embodies a mixed material pallet, bleeding aggressive forms and building lines with small glazed sections on the western façade facing the street. After pricing and matching specifications of a standard project builder the home was comparable on price and maintained a higher energy efficiency rating. Build time was also estimated to be halved due to the light weight construction methodology in review against a standard project builders build times for a two storey home.
