REEVE HOUSE

Located in the natural bushland of the Darlington Scarp is a small semi-rural lot covered in natural bush. A simple dream to connect with nature and escape from modern fast paced life, until the reality of Bushfire Attack Levels (BAL) and cost requirements of BAL FZ and BAL 40 becomes a reality. In collaboration with Ironstone Homes a design was formulated with BAL40 construction methodologies and retention of significant habitat trees. To achieve this the building structure was wrapped around the major trees focusing on retention of bush where possible but maintaining the strict BAL setbacks needed from side boundary lines. With the use of majority external dark metal cladding and exposed steel structures the building form took on a dominate appearance that contrasted with the natural bushland olives and greens, punching out of the hill side as a prominent structure.
