A vintage car lover and avid gardener form the nucleus of a simple family home that bridges the gap between outside and inside spaces. Due to complicated planning implications on the block a unique strategy was developed in consultation with the local council to maximise the potential of the home. Natural light and sun patterns formed the orientation of the layered cubes defining spaces that allow the client to utilise different internal and external areas to best suit the winter or summer months. The modern façade has a articulated forms and a mixed material palette creating a contemporary coastal look with dark and light contrasting volumes balanced with use of timber and concrete. In collaboration with the builder budget restraints and construction methodologies were an important element in making the project viable and the use of light weight construction methodologies was adopted for speed and versatility on site not possible with traditional brick and concrete upper floor structures
