VINDALOO HOUSE

An existing duplex with good bones and advanced existing trees provided an opportunity for a renovation of a dilapidated 3x1 into a 3x2 with new family home with laundry, kitchen, carport and entertaining spaces. The design methodology was to utilise the existing structure where possible and reduced overall budget compared to areas or rooms gained. By pushing the design brief and justifying extensive amendments to local council policies and r codes provide the home to maximise useable space and create landscaped spaces around the existing mature trees. The solution created a balanced small family home that had extensive outdoor living spaces and advanced green spaces that were visually connected to all living spaces. A dominant architectural styling was applied to any new extension creating a black and white themed elevation that defined old and new. Extensive upcycled building materials and landscaping elements were used where possible to further reduced overall budget.
